Behavioral Health Barometer: Texas

The Behavioral Health Barometer report for Texas originates from the Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality (CBHSQ), who maintains several data collection systems and surveys on key topics in U.S. behavioral health, including the following:

  • The National Survey on Drug Use and Health, which measures behavioral health indicators across the United States.
  • The Behavioral Health Services Information System, which collects information on the U.S. behavioral health treatment system and connects people with substance use and mental health treatment through the Behavioral Health Treatment Services Locator.

Child Trends DataBank

The Child Trends DataBank is an online resource for indicators of child and family well-being and associated measures. The DataBank includes close to 100 population-based measures, covering the domains of health and safety, child care and education, and behaviors linked to positive and negative well-being.

School Physical Activity and Nutrition (SPAN) Survey

The overall goal of SPAN is to establish a surveillance system to monitor the prevalence of obesity in school-aged children in Texas. This surveillance system allows researchers to identify and track trends in childhood obesity. In addition, SPAN identifies factors in Texas students that may underlie obesity, including dietary behaviors, nutrition knowledge and attitudes, and physical activity.
