The medical consenter provides consent to the following medical care visits:
- medical appointments
- sick visits or follow-up visits
- specialist visits
- eye exams
- dentist visits
- preventive care
Most children in DFPS custody are eligible for STAR Health. The medical consenter must use STAR Health network providers for all healthcare services.
Medical care for children in DFPS conservatorship is generally covered by Medicaid/STAR Health but in some cases may include a service not covered by Medicaid.
If a court or health care practitioner orders a service the medical consenter is unsure is appropriate or covered by Medicaid, the medical consenter should consult with the caseworker prior to consenting.
