Information Meetings - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Not a Texas resident?

For information on fostering or adopting a child from out-of-state, contact the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC) state office.

Visit your state adoption website for information on how to start the process to become a foster or adoptive family. Texas can only place children with families from other states if they have a current home study. You may also visit the national website at www.AdoptUSKids.org.

Note: U.S. families approved to adopt within their state and who have a current home study may fill out the interest form directly on the child's photo/profile page in Child Search.

Need accommodations?

For accommodations, such as a sign language interpreter, for attending an information meeting, contact your region's recruitment staff 3 days prior to the meeting, if possible.

Where do I mail a family home study?

Out of state and private adoption agency families: Please mail your home study to us if you are interested in children from a particular area. If you are a DFPS family, you do not need to do this since DFPS staff can obtain your study.
