tropical stormThe National Weather Service has forecasted significant rainfall and potential flooding associated with the tropical disturbance that will be moving across parts of Southeast Texas beginning Monday, June 15, 2015, through Wednesday, June 17, 2015. The potential rainfall totals will lead to flash flood watches across the Texas coast. Flash flooding may develop quickly, so clients, caregivers, and employees should be prepared to evacuate swiftly in the event of rising water.

The safety of DFPS providers and children at your operations is of paramount importance.  Please take the time to review your emergency and disaster plans with caregivers and employees and make preparations to implement those plans. A comprehensive disaster preparedness plan covers emergency situations that require evacuation, sheltering in place, or other protections in the event of a natural disaster or other threatening situation that may pose a health or safety hazard to children in care, caregivers, and employees.

Maintaining calm and composed thinking can be difficult in emergency situations. When emergencies happen, it is important to have a well thought-out and practiced plan to which caregivers and employees can refer and put into action when the need arises.

In the event of evacuation, relocation, or any incident that renders your operation unsafe, please contact the DFPS Abuse or Neglect Hotline at 1-800-252-5400 to notify licensing staff.  You may also contact your licensing representative for additional support.
