Volunteer of the Year Awards

Volunteers are vital to DFPS in helping to achieve its mission. Each year thousands of volunteers give countless hours of service to help protect the most vulnerable Texans.

DFPS Volunteer of the Year awards are given to a volunteer, an intern, and volunteer groups. We are pleased to announce award recipients below.

2022 Biggest Heart Award

Awarded to Jennifer Kremer-Oliva

This award recognizes the outstanding service of an individual who has volunteered for DFPS.


2022 Helping Hands Award

Awarded to Might Men of Jerusalem

This award recognizes the outstanding service of a community group who has volunteered for DFPS.


2022 World Changer Award

Awarded to Julianna Hooper

This award recognizes the outstanding service of an intern who has volunteered for DFPS.

2021 Biggest Heart Award

Awarded to Caleb Wallace, Wichita Falls, TX

This award recognizes the outstanding service of an individual who volunteered for DFPS in 2021. The 2021 Biggest Heart Award was given to Caleb Wallace, who went above and beyond the Agency's mission, vision, and value for children, families and vulnerable adults in Texas. Caleb’s open heart shows purpose, passion, and persistence in all that he sets out to do.


2021 Helping Hands Award

Awarded to VFW Post #8782, El Paso, TX and Silver Ribbon Community Partners Board, McAllen, TX

The 2021 Helping Hands Award was awarded to two community groups, VFW Post #8782 and the Silver Ribbon Community Partners Board, whose contributions were vital to the mission of DFPS and the quality of life of the families DFPS serves. VFW Post #8782 and Silver Ribbon Community Partners Board showed dedication in their time and talents to better the lives of others in their community.


2021 The World Changer Award

Awarded to A.J. Garza, San Angelo, TX

This award recognizes the outstanding service of an intern who volunteered for DFPS in 2021. The 2021 World Changer Award was given to A.J. Garza, who demonstrated professionalism and initiative and was a noted team player. A.J. was instrumental in impacting the lives of children, families, and vulnerable adults. A.J. demonstrated integrity working alongside staff, and his internship will have an everlasting effect on his fellow Texans.
