Please note that the Spring 2026 Internship Application Period will be open from October 27th through December 8th. Positions fill quickly, so you are encouraged to apply early in the application period. To apply for an internship with DFPS, please follow the steps below:

  1. To get started, visit Handshake see current opportunities. Note that if you don’t already have an account with Handshake, you can make one using an .edu email address.
    • The posting will clearly state if the internship is paid or unpaid. You will need to submit a resume to be considered.
    • PLEASE NOTE: Once you have attached your resume and are redirected to this page from Handshake as part of the External Application process, your application has been submitted and no further action is needed.
  2. Staff will review your information and will contact you if they are interested in setting up an interview. All interns must be interviewed either virtually or in-person.
  3. Selected candidates will be sent paperwork to complete and sign electronically.
  4. Once the completed paperwork is returned, staff will submit the required background checks.
  5. Upon clearing the required background checks, the student will be connected to their supervisor to set their start date and schedule required trainings. Trainings vary based on the program area and type of internship.
