Supervised Independent Living (SIL) is a voluntary Extended Foster Care placement where young adults live on their own, while still getting casework and support services to help them become independent and self-sufficient.

  • These SIL contracted providers serve all young adults in foster care in Texas, no matter where they are from or where the contractors are located.
  • For definitions of the settings, see Types of SIL Settings.
  • Young adults must be accepted to the college or university to enter campus-based SIL.

Note: SIL referrals in CBC areas must receive initial approval from the DFPS SIL Coordinator before referring to the CBC provider.
