8234 Hospital Sitting Services

8234.1 Authorizing Service

A worker may authorize this service when a child is in the hospital for extensive amounts of time, needs a sitter, and neither the worker nor the foster parents are available.

8234.2 Determining Eligibility

CPS November 2006

Eligible clients are children who:

  •  Are in the managing conservatorship of DFPS; and

  •  Are in a hospital.

Note: Other situations requiring a sitter need a program waiver.

8234.3 Identifying Available Services

CPS November 2006

The Hospital Sitting Services available through the contract are:

  •  24-hour care of children by trained and supervised hospital sitters during a child's hospital stay; and

  •  On call service, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Note: Hospital sitting services do not include medical or nursing care.

Note: There is not a separate code at this time for Hospital Sitting Services; the services must be billed under Emergency Homemaker Services.

8234.51 When IMPACT is Unavailable

If the IMPACT case management system is not functioning or the worker is otherwise unable to access it, the worker may authorize hospital sitting services by submitting a paper copy of Form 2054, Service Authorization.

8234.6 Handling Additional Duties

To authorize additional units of service or extend or reauthorize the service, the worker must follow the procedures in:
